You just can’t beat a good curry.
Whether you’re relaxing at the weekend or blowing off steam after a hard day at work, a delicious curry is always bound to put a smile on your face. The exotic blends of different spices will tickle your taste buds, while the sheer range of dishes allows you to experiment and try new things. But, just how adventurous is the average diner?
Recent surveys show that eating habits in the UK are very different to those in India, with dishes low on spice proving much more popular over here. Many diners prefer to consistently order the same curry dish, too, with studies showing a clear top 5 across the country.
Perhaps not typically a curry, a modern Biryani is a stir-fried mixture of pilau rice and lamb, although a chicken version is also very popular in the UK. Perfect for those that want something in the middle of the heat spectrum, Royal Nawaab’s Biryani dishes just can’t be missed.
The Jalfrezi is hands-down the hottest curry on this list, as it’s surprisingly become more popular than the Madras in recent years. You can enjoy this delicious blend of spices with meat or vegetables, but the use of bell peppers and green chillies means it’s certainly not for the faint-hearted. For any spice-lovers out there, this needs to be one of the first things on your plate.
Usually a little hotter than the Biryani, a Rogan Josh is always popular with diners that want something a little spicy, but not too spicy. The use of tomatoes and red peppers lends the curry its signature colour, while the use of spices and chillies gives the curry a bit of a kick. Delicious.
For years, the Tikka Masala (usually chicken) has been a staple dish of the British diet. However, the latest research puts it in at number 2 of the nation’s favourite curries. While there have always been arguments surrounding where this dish actually originated from, there’s certainly no doubting just how delicious a good Tikka Masala can be.
The use of spices may vary between restaurants, but a typical CTM won’t be too spicy and will be packed full of flavour. The tomato-based sauce contains chilli, garlic and onion, and it always serves as the perfect accompaniment for a big piece of naan bread!
Although the Korma might be considered something of a “blander” dish, it still contains a great deal of flavour. Over the past 12 months, popularity in the Korma seems to have sky-rocketed, with diners eager to try some Indian flavours without too much of the spice.
This creamy curry has always been a big hit at our buffet, and diners can’t get enough of the thick sauce and unmistakeable flavour. If you’re dipping your toe into the world of Indian cuisine for the first time, then a chicken Korma is a great place to start.
As the best Indian restaurant London has to offer, we serve all of the above curries right here at Royal Nawaab. Whether you want to enjoy your usual curry or try something a little different, our delicious buffet lets you sample a huge range of Asian cuisine.
