Does Pakistan Hold The Key To A Long And Healthy Life?

April 3, 2018

With advances in modern medicine and the general health of the average person increasing, we are now lucky to be able to live longer than ever before. But modern life in the west tends to mean we eat a poor diet consisting of refined carbohydrates and sugar that take our daily calorie intake up to between 2000 – 3000 calories a day.

The types of food we are gorging on is making us sick; cancer, heart disease and diabetes are now the three main causes of death in the western world today.

The opposite is occurring in the land of the Hunzas in Pakistan. It is common for people to live well into their 90’s, and beyond. The difference between them and westerners is that they tend to live well into old age without developing any chronic diseases.

So what is their secret to living a long and healthy life?

  • The Hunza diet is rich in complex carbohydrates but low in calories. They eat around 1600 – 1800 calories a day – nearly half of a westerner’s daily intake.
  • They eat some form of probiotic food every day in the form of kefir or fermented vegetables.
  • Their diet is mainly vegetarian, with meals of meat and fish only on rare occasions, sometimes as rarely as once a month.
  • Their plant-based diet provides them with around 20-50 grams of protein a day, lower than a western diet.
  • The most important difference in their diet is the fact that they consume absolutely no sugar or refined carbohydrates: the main source of western dietary problems.
  • Lots of fresh, often raw, fruits and vegetables.

Without a diet consisting of high amounts of refined carbohydrates, sugar, animal fat, hydrogenated vegetable oils, the Hunzas of Pakistan have very little worry of developing cancer, heart disease or diabetes; the biggest killers of westerners.

So take a leaf out of Pakistan’s book and balance your diet effectively to avoid developing food related diseases.
