What is the hottest curry in the world?

September 8, 2016

Picture yourself out and about on a Saturday night. It’s the weekend and you’re having a great time hanging out with your friends. You decide on going for a curry, and sit down at the table in your chosen restaurant (obviously, we recommend Nawaab), only for someone to throw a canister of tear gas in your face. That doesn’t sound fun, right? Well, that’s essentially what you’re doing if you try to eat the hottest curry in the world.

Some of us genuinely enjoy the taste of spicy food, others like the challenge, while the rest order the hottest thing on the menu as a way of showing off to whoever they’re sat with. This is normally a vindaloo, which really is a delicious curry if you’re able to handle some pretty strong spices. But there is another curry out in the world that really isn’t for the faint-hearted.

Introducing the Phall. This is a curry dish that was created in an Indian restaurant in Birmingham, and it is without a doubt the hottest curry that money can buy. It uses a large number of ground standard chilli peppers, and then also incorporates something a lot stronger- such as scotch bonnet or habanero peppers. Basically, it will make a vindaloo taste like a korma.

Typically, the dish is a tomato-based thick curry and includes ginger and, optionally, fennel seeds. But places all around the world have been adding their own ingredients in an attempt to create the hottest ever. A British themed restaurant in Manhattan have created a curry including the Phall Naga Jolokia chilli, which is actually used in the making of tear gas.

The Phall is so hot that it is more of a competitive eating challenge, rather than a casual option to have on your lunchbreak. It may just be so hot for the sake of being hot, but we can only bow down to someone that is able to tackle such a spicy dish.

If you’re after the finest Indian and Pakistani cuisine, you can come to our Indian restaurant in London and sample the dishes that we have available. Whilst we don’t expect you to fancy taking down a Phall, we do have a wide variety of dishes for you to try!
