3 Curries For People Who Love Chicken

November 14, 2018

It’s fair to say that chicken goes with just about anything.

Whether you like it roasted and smothered in gravy, or prefer it deep fried and crispy, there’s no doubt that chicken is the most popular meat on the planet. In fact, it’s estimated that over 95% of the UK population eats chicken at least twice a week, with around 55 million chickens eaten every day worldwide.

Of course, one of the best ways to enjoy the taste of chicken is by ordering a sizzling, tongue-tingling curry. Packed with flavour and scintillating spices, the wide range of chicken curries has always been incredibly popular in the UK. Here are our top 3:

Chicken Tikka Masala

You just can’t go wrong with a good chicken tikka masala, and for years this was actually considered to be the UK’s national dish. It’s creamy texture and orange appearance has become famous all over the country, and it’s always proven to be one of the most popular dishes at our Indian buffet.

Not too spicy but providing a tangy, punchy taste, a CTM is created through a combination of tomatoes, cream, paprika, turmeric and, of course, chicken.

Just don’t ask where the dish originated from, because that causes all kinds of arguments.

Chicken Madras

Much higher on the spice scale is the chicken madras, a curry which goes very heavy on the chili powder and has most people breaking out in mild sweats.

The use of red chili powder causes the infamous red colour of the sauce (which should be a pretty clear indication of just how spicy it can be), while many diners will choose to eat it with a side of mint raita, which will help to cool it down if the spice gets too much.

But this is by no means the spiciest curry in the world, and it doesn’t come anywhere near some of the phaal curries out there. A madras is the perfect option for people who fancy eating some chicken with a bit of a kick to it, without running the risk of permanently damaging their taste buds!

Chicken Korma

Following a survey carried out by Just Eat late last year, the chicken korma emerged as a shock winner of the UK’s favourite curry. Claiming 29% of the vote, this mild, creamy dish edged out the likes of chicken tikka masala and rogan josh, which finished second and third respectively.

Although you might consider the korma to be a little bland or mild, the fact is it still offers delicious Indian flavours without blowing your head off. The thick, rich sauce is perfect alongside a good chunk of naan bread, marinating the chicken in a gorgeous combination of herbs and spices.

The people of the UK have spoken: the chicken korma currently reigns supreme as the king of curries. In fact, we’re getting hungry just thinking about it.
