Some ingredients in Indian curry have been tested and proved to help against diseases and ailments. Eating curry has proved to help give relief to people suffering from arthritis. Some spices used in curries have also offered protection against Alzheimer’s.

Some spices used in Indian curries have beneficial properties that help prevent illness and maintain a healthy immune system.

Ginger

Ginger can act as an effective pain reliever from the agony of arthritis. The spice is already used as a supplement called Zinaxin.

Studies carried out by U.S and presented at a British Medical Association conference confirmed that the two-thirds of the people involved in the study that were taking ginger supplements experienced a reduced amount of pain that was caused by arthritis.

This is because the spice has antioxidants gingerol, shagaol and zingerone. The Zingerone reacts with the free radicals that can cause tissue damage and joint inflammation so helps reduce the pain of arthritis.

Turmeric

Curcumin is the primary active compound in turmeric which is found in curry powders. A recent study from the U.S. found that eating turmeric can slow down the build-up of plaques on the brain which is the main cause of Alzheimer’s by up to 50%.

Turmeric has also been found to help with digestion as well as guard against heart attacks and cancer in the colon. It also has a strong anti-inflammatory properties.

Cumin

Cumin contains phytochemicals, chemicals which are found in plants. Several phytochemicals, including cumin have been found to block various hormone actions and metabolic pathways that are associated with the development of cancer and heart disease
A study in Israel showed that the patients consuming high levels of cumin were less likely to develop prostate cancer.
