Ethnic Foods By Country

March 5, 2018

As you travel to different countries, the one big surprise, and the most noticeable cultural difference is the food. You could travel the world for the rest of your life and never eat the same thing twice. Each culture has so much choice when it comes to cuisine, that your options are seemingly limitless.

Eating the same food on a daily basis is a sure fire way of experiencing cuisine boredom. Here in the UK we love to diversify our food so much you can now walk into a restaurant serving up ethnic dishes from nearly every country on earth.

Incorporating ethnic dishes into your meals can infuse a variety and culture to your dinner table. Let’s check out some countries with cultural dishes that will satisfy your palette:

Mexico

Famous for its spicy dishes, sauces and soups like mole, posole and tamales. Mexican food is renowned the world over for its chilli sauces made with fresh tomatoes and several different types of chilli peppers: fresh and dried.

Italy

The pasta capital of the world.  Italy is famous for some of our favourite foods; pizza and pasta being the most obvious, yet the country has many other signature ethnic dishes. Parmesan and aubergine appear in lots of Italian recipes. As does tomato sauce, mozzarella and Gnocchi, a potato dumpling dish.

Pakistan and India

Another country famous for its spices thanks to delicious curries; robust savoury dishes packed with cumin and yoghurt. Some of the most commonly found dishes are tandoori chicken, chicken tikka and malai kofta.  Tandoori chicken consists of whole chicken marinated in salt, garlic past, tandoori masala and yoghurt before being cooked in an oven. Curry has become one of the most popular dishes in the UK because of the hearty and robust flavours, and it caters to meat lovers and vegetarians alike.
