Manchester Mega Mela Weekend

June 8, 2015

Next month, Manchester will be hosting the largest festival of South Asian culture in the North of England. Check out Manchester Mega Mela, two days of traditional activities, dramatic performances and lots of Indian food.

On 25 – 26 July, the Manchester Mega Mela will be held in Platt Fields Park and will cover a whole weekend of exciting and cultural festivities.

With the promise of hot sunny weather in the UK this summer, the festival promises to be a major event. The Mega Mela is proud to be one of the largest South Asian events in the UK and has been going for over a decade.

The festival was first organised in 2003 by the Manchester Mela Executive Committee. The Mela is visited by people from many different cultures and nationalities. With the festival’s wide mix of different activities there is something for everyone.

The festival will have traditional arts and crafts workshops, Asian food, music, dances and entertaining performances.

The Chai Serai Marquee will feature a seating area for visitors to relax and witness traditional folklore and Asian contemporary music and dance. The festival will offer you the chance to immerse yourself in Asian culture.

As expert chefs of Indian food, Nawaab Manchester is interested to see the regional varieties of Asian food available. The festival is sure to be alight with tasty and spicy aromas.

At the Mega Mela there will be two stages and many clothing, jewellery, arts and craft stalls. You can get free henna and face painting.

At the event there will also be a fun fair which will entertain children and adrenaline chasers. The Mega festival is evidently aiming to top last year’s number of attendees.

Last month Manchester also hosted the Vaishakhi Mela festival at Stretford Mall. Manchester is without a doubt the platform of Asian cultural events.
