We see plenty of faces here at Royal Nawaab, thousand each week in fact. Amongst those faces are a few celebrities. The most recent famous face that came to visit our banquet hall is British professional boxer Tyson Fury.
The once unified WBA (super), IBF, WBO, IBO and lineal heavyweight title holder visited Royal Nawaab Manchester and enjoyed our Indian and Pakistani banquet. The 31-year-old boxer has grown into one of the world’s most enjoyable fighters to watch amongst fans for his swift movement, big character and surprisingly rapid movement for a big man. After turning professional at the age of 20, winning the ABA super-heavyweight title in 2008, he went on to win the English heavyweight title twice, becoming British and Commonwealth champion in 2011.
Added to his trophy cabinet, the Irish and WBO inter-continental titles. He went on to defeat Dereck Chisora in a 2014 rematch for European and WBO international heavyweight titles.
A 24-0 record lead him to challenge Vladimir Kiltschko, which Fury won by unanimous decision.
Around this time Fury began struggling with mental health issues. He was stripped of his IBF title just ten days after the Klitschko bout after his rematch contract with Klitschko ruled him out of a fight with the IBF’s mandatory challenger Vyacheslav Glazkov.
The rematch didn’t materialise and Fury’s problems outside the ring led him to alcohol abuse, extreme weight gain, recreational drug use and an anti-doping violation. In 2016 he was stripped of the WBA, WBO, and IBO titles.
After two years of inactivity, Fury stepped into the ring once again. Conquering his demons and getting back in fighting shape, Fury challenged the WBC heavyweight title against Deontay Wilder. Controversially the fight was scored as a draw, even after an inspiring rise from a knockdown late on that looked sure to have sealed it for Wilder.
Fury, in his post-fight press conference, stated that him rising from the canvas as he did was a tribute to all those suffering with depression, alcoholism and drug use, the likes of which he had been through in the past two years.
Now, Fury is looking better than ever, even stepping into the world of WWE. He is set to make his debut on 31 October against his new arch enemy Strowman.
