The Grosvenor House Hotel in London played host to over a thousand VIP guests on Sunday 12th November, to honour the winners of the 7th Asian Curry Awards.
The annual awards show, organised by the Asian Catering Federation, praises the finest Asian restaurateurs across the UK. The awards were presented by BBC Master Chef’s Greg Wallace and BBC and former Sky TV news anchor Samantha Simmons.
The Asian Curry Awards were established as a way to pay homage to the best in the industry, whilst also inspiring the next generation of chefs and restaurateurs.
Asian restaurateurs across London and the rest of the UK received accolades for their hard work and innovative dishes. Royal Nawaab added to their past accomplishments by being awarded ‘Best Buffet Restaurant’ as well as a special ‘Best Curry King’ award for Royal Nawaab’s Mahboob Hussain.
These awards top off an incredible year at Royal Nawaab, adding to our ‘Asian Food and Restaurant’ and ‘Asian food and Oriental Chef’ awards from earlier in the year. These were some of the biggest awards of the night, so it’s fair to say we’re absolutely over the moon with this incredible achievement!
Elsewhere, another headline award went to Benares’ Atul Kochar as the Michelin-starred chef was awarded Chef of the Year. Quilon, another Michelin-starred establishment, was awarded the Asian Fine Dining award. The Best Newcomer title went to SOHO’s Kricket after their fantastic start with their first restaurant.
ACF chairman Yawar Khan gave a keynote speech acknowledging the problems facing Asian restaurateurs, but also highlighted the success of those who have embraced the changes, raised their standards, updated menus and invested in marketing.
There was also a special recognition award for Asma Khan, whose all-female staff at Darjeeling Express have been receiving widespread critical acclaim.
A big congratulations to all the other big winners, as we feel truly humbled to be competing with such fantastic restaurants across the UK!
